Lilium reveals new air taxi as it celebrates maiden flight

ESA BIC alumni Lilium founders present new jet

ESA BIC Bavaria alumni Lilium today revealed its new five-seater air taxi prototype for the first time. Earlier this month, the Munich-based startup’s all-electric aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight in the skies over Germany.

Lilium is developing a revolutionary on- demand air taxi service. With the Lilium Jet, it is manufacturing and operating a fully-electric aircraft that can take off and land vertically (eVTOL). The Munich-based startup has designed and prototyped a brand new form of aircraft with the aim of delivering journeys that are four times faster than a taxi, yet competitive in price.

ESA BIC Bavaria has accompanied Lilium from the very beginning. The four visionary founders, Daniel Wiegand (CEO), Sebastian Born, Matthias Meiner and Patrick Nathen joined the ESA BIC Bavaria’s two-year incubation programme in Oberpfaffenhofen right after the company was founded in February 2015. Since then, the company has attracted more than $100m in funding from world-class investors such as Atomico, Tencent, LGT, Freigeist and Obvious Ventures and now employs more than 300 people.
